Physical Self Care – Nourishing your Body from the Inside Out

Physical Self Care encompasses any processes or activities that affect your physical wellbeing and in todays blog I will be focusing on the element of nourishing our bodies from the inside out both physically and emotionally.

Our bodies work hard for us and like any other organism or machine it requires us to fuel it and maintain it to continue running efficiently.

The food we eat, our hydration, our environment, and the way we care for our bodies are all important aspects of self-care. Our body has a clever way of letting us know when things are out of balance too. Our energy levels, digestion, mood, skin, hair, nails, teeth are big indicators of our physical health. Ever heard the phase ‘we are what we eat’

Now I’m not going to lecture about what is good food, what is bad food as in reality I believe there is no such thing as good or bad food, its more about balance, variety, and enjoyment of life.

So, for example maybe you eat Celery all day every day. Whilst it is a nutrient rich food, eating it all day long is not balanced, varied or enjoyable.

Eating a variety of foods that nourish you and not completely restricting yourself from foods that are perhaps less nutrient dense or more of a treat can still support your physical and emotional health.

In my opinion we tend to know which foods are or aren’t more nutrient dense and know that we need to drink water regularly, but problems occurs when there is a lack of balance or variety.

So be realistic are there some adjustments you can make to your eating and drinking habits that still allows you to eat an enjoyable diet but also factors in balance and variety.

It can be helpful to keep a weekly food diary including meals, drinks, energy, and mood levels rated in the morning, lunchtime & evening and recording digestion and hours sleep each day can be useful too. With this information you can see what you’re eating each day, identify things to adjust. We can see if there is a link between what you’re eating and drinking that is affecting your Energy, mood, digestion, and sleep quality.

This can be an insightful thing to do and can help you to set yourself some goals for your physical self-care which can be used to then perhaps create a weekly meal planner to help you stay on track.

If you would like more specific support and guidance with regards to food diaries, meal planning, and goal setting get in touch as I can offer this as part of my 1-2-1 services in person or online www.myholisticbliss.com/121

I also have a variety of recipe Ideas, goal setting and planning resources as part of the My Holistic Bliss Online Subscription www.myholisticbliss.com/online

In addition to nourishing our bodies from the inside, we can also care for our bodies from the outside with our skin care routines, teeth brushing, haircare etc.

As I’m not an expert in these areas so here are some recommendations. A podcast I listened to recently about teeth and a lovely Yorkshire based business that hand makes skin and body care that is just lovely, and I have been having great results with her skincare range.

If you like podcasts check this one out with James Smith talking to a top London Cosmetic Dentist about all thing’s teeth. https://open.spotify.com/episode/2B71wK4L4prJNHkwhUgD0a?si=939f0d93437f4aa5

And my recommendation for some lovely skin/body care from a local maker Holistic Kitchen. If like me, you prefer to use more natural products and love the Essential oil scented products check out www.holistickitchen.co.uk

Sally-Ann who curates and makes all these products herself and they are gorgeous. The range also includes essential oil blends, bath salts and more. She currently has 30% off a variety of her products at moment too.

Would making a daily ritual out of Care for your hair, skin, feet, hands be something that will support your self-care, also creating the opportunity for some headspace and a mindful activity you can add to your week.

In my next blog I will be discussing the next part of Physical Self Care which is Physical Activity.

Thank you for taking the time to read and if you have any questions or comments, please email me debbie@myholisticbliss.com
